13th International Workshop on WATER DYNAMICS
Hydrogen in the Earth and Fluid Behaviors

We have organized International Workshop on WATER DYANMICS since 2004, and it had been financially supported by COE (2004-2008) and Global COE (“Global Education and Research Center for Earth and Planetary Dynamics” 2009-2013) and related program (Takuetsu-Kyoten, 2013-2014FY)

We had the Great East Japan Earthquake and severe tsumani disaster on March 11 2011. Tohoku University, the largest university in Tohoku District, was partly damaged by the earthquake; however, we can continue to perform high level scientific research activities as well as previous conditions, and we have great responsibility as a leading university.

The Workshop will review the fundamental properties and reactivity of WATER, which means not only pure water but also multicomponent geofluids, and the workshop involves the role of carbon in the Earth’s interior for dynamics and evolution of the Earth System. Additionally environmental geology is important field for future Earth and human beings.

After the Fukushima Nuclear Power Disaster has drastically changed the energy policy of the Japanese government. The government, industry, and citizens are much more positive to develop stable, safe, locally-distributed, and clean energy resources. Geothermal energy has been focused, and geothermal has been considered as one of the most promising solutions for currently occurring energy-related crisis in Japan. ICDP (International Continental Drilling Program) has great interests in high temperature and deep drilling project, named as JBBP (Japan Beyond Brittle Project).
Workshop in Tohoku University campus is 15, 16and 17 March, 2016.
(11 March is fifth anniversary of the Great East Japan Disaster)

13th International Workshop on WATER DYNAMICS focuses on hydrogen (genesis, reactions, transport, hydrogen compound (H2O and others) in the Earth. We also would like to discuss on genesis and transport of geofluids as essential processes for evolution of the Solid Earth.

We are conducting supercritical geothermal research. Water Dynamics covers geothermal energy system of the Earth.

Environmental Geology, involving soil and water pollution, is current big issues for human beings. Water Dynamics could cover entire range of environmental Earth Science.

Workshop in Tohoku University campus is 9 and 10 March, and then we will go to tsunami area (11,12 March). 11 March is fourth anniversary of the Great East Japan Disaster.

12th International Workshop on WATER DYNAMICS focuses on geofluids in impermeable, permeable, deeper and hotter solid Earth. We would like to discuss on genesis and transport of geofluids as essential processes for evolution of the Solid Earth.

WD10-Category Information

Deep Carbon Cycle

For the advancement of science and technology for carbon and related materials, this session provides the latest knowledge in the area of carbon materials in the Earth’s interior. The session will focus also on circulation of C-O-H geofluids for understanding Earth process.

Geosphere Pollution

The conference “East Asian contaminated Soil symposium for global safety”  is intended to be performed as part of a program  “Inter-Graduate School Doctoral Degree Program on Science for Global Safety”.   For the disaster risk reduction and management, Tohoku University is promoting to develop human resources who have capablity of system design, scientific and social engineering.

As a part of the understanding and prevention of disaster risks, this conference will focus on soil contamination.  The soil contamination that caused by the industrial activities, disaster and so on should be shared knowledge and experience with other Asian countries.

Program gathered researchers from Asian countries, and aimed to obtain  common understanding of the current situation and the risks of each country.
