WD17-This year’s Water Dynamics has been canceled

Dear guests and all of participants of Water Dynamics-17

COVID-19, New coronavirus, is spreading to all over the world, especially China, South Korea, Iran and Italy.

In Japan, we have 961 patients (1st March), but most of them are passengers in Princess Diamond Cruise Ship (711). In northeast part of Japan, (Tohoku District), we have only one patient who was passenger of Princess Diamond. However, last Friday, Japanese government (Prime minister Abe) requested to suspend all of elementary, junior high and high schools in Japan until spring break. Usually, Japanese school has spring break for two weeks in the second half of March. That government request means to extend the spring break for almost one month in March.

It is very disappointing that we need to cancel Water Dynamics-17. Water Dynamics is cutting-edge and very familial scientific fan meeting, however, we cannot hold the workshop in this timing.

For all of invited speakers and students, program will be opened and recorded on website, and the organizing committee publishes “Program and Abstract of 17th Water Dynamics” as an evidence of the workshop.

Infection, virus disease, had been great effects to human history. Please take care in your health.
Good food, good sleep, good science, and no stress, those are good for your health.
See you somewhere.

WD17-Preface

17th International Workshop on
WATER DYNAMICS

Dynamic Earth -Rocks, Fluids and Reactions –

Season of WATER DYNAMICS has come. Our team in Tohoku University organize attractive workshop of WATER DYNAMICS every year, mostly in March. March is the final month of fiscal year and school year in Japan, we can summarize all of academic and research activities within the year. We invite most important researches in the specific fields to Sendai, and we would like to communicate each other and to create future direction for Frontier Earth Science.

In July of 2019, International Association of GeoChemistry organized joint international symposium on 16th Water -Rock Interaction (WRI) and 13th Applied Isotope Geochemistry (AIG) in Tomsk, Russia, and then next conference of WRI-17 and AIG-14 will be held in Sendai in August 2-9 2021.

We already organized Local Organizing Committee and we had permission of co-sponsor of domestic academic societies. We are now planning to open conference website in the beginning of 2020.

We can accept conference registration and submission of presentation through the web site.

After the Fukushima Nuclear Power Disaster, the energy policy of the Japanese government has been drastically changed. The government, industry, and citizens are much more positive to develop stable, safe, locally-distributed, and clean energy resources. Geothermal energy has been focused, and geothermal has been considered as one of the most promising solutions for currently occurring energy-related crisis in Japan. ICDP (International Continental Drilling Program) has great interests in high temperature and deep drilling project, named as JBBP (Japan Beyond Brittle Project).

Workshop in Tohoku University campus is 27th-30h March, 2020, including field excursion.

DYNAMIC EARTH, it is our planet. Sometimes it is very dangerous for human beings such as volcanic eruption and earthquake, but we have to harmonize to natural phenomena of the Earth. We have to realize and we have to accept and overcome. We would like to understand the true face of DYNAMIC EARTH which shows mysterious and variable characteristics.

We have organized International Workshop on WATER DYANMICS since 2004, and it had been financially supported by COE (2004-2008) and Global COE (“Global Education and Research Center for Earth and Planetary Dynamics” 2009-2013) and related program (Takuetsu-Kyoten, 2013-2014FY), and then International Joint Graduate Programs in Earth and Environmental Science (GP-EES) and Resilience and Safety Studies (GP-RSS) in Tohoku University.

“Enjoy Science” based on “Friendship Relation”, that is the most important, that is motto of WATER DYNAMICS.
